What did you do this past week?

This past week most of my courses started giving out assignments so I was pretty busy getting started on them. I also started to have stand up meetings for my internship. This past week gave me an idea of how the semester would go work wise.

What’s in your way?

It is still early in the semester so I am still trying to get a strong footing and routine going. I need at least one more week to really get a grasp of how I need to organize my time. The only thing holding me back currently is the lack of knowledge of how a packed week looks for myself.

What will you do next week?

I believe next week will be pretty similar to my past week with the amount of work. The first assignment for CS373 is due Tuesday so I will be working on mostly that the first couple days. Then I will be trying to get ahead in my internship and other courses.

If you read it, what did you think of the Continuous Integration?

I think it is a useful article to read if you plan to have a career in software development. It gives a lot of helpful tips about the current industry standards and thought processes surrounding project development and management.

What was your experience of Collatz?

I did not have any prior knowledge of Collatz before this first project. It is not a very difficult problem to understand but, most of the difficulty spawns from the need for optimizations.

What was your experience of exceptions?

I have had a few classes prior to CS373 briefly mention exceptions. They do not involve very large discussions to wrap your brain around but they can be very useful and helpful for explaining code. Most of the knowledge I had in exceptions prior to this semester had been in Java so, learning how Python handled exceptions was truly brand new for me.

What made you happy this week?

There have been a lot of beautiful days in Austin this past week. I went to Zilker park for the first time in awhile and got to hangout in beautiful weather. Also, I am pretty excited to watch the Super Bowl because there is a player on the Buccaneers that is from my hometown.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week is to get some fresh air. This past week has been beautiful and needs to be experienced when it comes around. Stepping away from the computer to give the brain a rest is a much needed task for all computer scientists especially on days with clear blue skies.
